Professional Family

My involvement with the American Group Psychotherapy Association (AGPA) began in the 1990’s when I experienced the intelligent conversations, excellent research and training offerings at the annual conferences.

I was amazed by the level of commitment AGPA offered to members and the consequent relationships that developed. Over the years, I created a warm and enduring professional home here. I have been nurtured by countless colleagues and have offered training and mentoring in return.

What Is The American Group Psychotherapy Association?

As the United States’ foremost group psychotherapy association, AGPA is committed to becoming an anti-racist organization, providing comprehensive group psychotherapy training to its members, and contributing to all related clinical research advancements.

The organization currently has 31 affiliate groups and over 2,000 members. This includes psychiatrists, social workers, nurses, psychologists, pastoral counselors, family therapists, occupational therapists, mental health therapists, and creative therapists.

In 2024, I was elected as President of the American Group Psychotherapy Association. In this role, I am involved with each part of the Tripartite Organizational Structure: Group Foundation for Advancing Mental Health, the International Board for Certification of Group Psychotherapists, and the American Group Psychotherapy Association.
